Workshop 8: Media Literacy and Misinformation – Reducing Online Harm

Workshop 8
GMedia Literacy and Misinformation: Reducing Online Harm

This workshop explores the challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and harmful online content in today’s digital environments. It combines different types of activities and enables participants to develop a deeper understanding of how false or misleading information spreads online and how it can contribute to confusion, conflict, discrimination and other forms of digital harm.

Participants will learn how to recognise unreliable information, identify common manipulation techniques, and understand the impact of misinformation on individuals and communities. They will practise strategies for evaluating online content, responding responsibly to misleading information, and supporting healthier digital environments. They will also work together to identify ways of promoting critical thinking, responsible sharing and positive digital citizenship. The reflection, evaluation and personal commitments at the end of the workshop enable participants to transfer their learning into everyday online interactions and professional contexts.
